Chas Wurster is CTO of Gimbal overseeing and all aspects of technology development. Chas played a similar role for Qualcomm Retail Solutions Inc., and joined Qualcomm in 2010 through the company's acquisition of Tapioca Mobile where he was a founder and CTO. As director of engineering in Qualcomm Labs, Chas was central to the initial engineering work that went into what became the Gimbal platform.
Chas has been the technical founder at two startups, one that raised venture funding, and one that was bootstrapped. The most recent, Tapioca Mobile, provided video adaptation and delivery services to ABC, Univision, Gannett, Hearst Corporation, 4Info and more. Prior to that, Chas was a founder and vice president of engineering for Tourmaline Networks, a mobile application development company that sold its email applications through more than 20 mobile operators around the world including Verizon, Vivo and Telefonica.
Chas holds a master's degree in computer science from the University of California, San Diego and a bachelor's degree in computer science from Harvey Mudd College.
Jonathan Barek is Chief Financial Officer for Gimbal and is responsible for overseeing all of the company’s financial operations. Jonathan brings over two decades of experience across corporate finance, venture capital, corporate development, and investment management.
Jonathan most recently was Director of Investment Management and Head of the US Venture Capital team at Capital Dynamics, where he oversaw funds-of-funds with more than $1 billion in commitments to venture capital firms, made commitments to a variety of venture capital funds, and led efforts to acquire secondary interests in venture capital funds or in venture-backed companies. Previously he served in senior operating roles (Chief Financial Officer or head of Corporate Development) for several venture-backed startup companies in Silicon Valley. Earlier in his career, Jonathan served as a Principal at two early-stage Silicon Valley venture capital firms. He began his career in investment banking at Bear Stearns and also worked in project finance for Bank of America in Asia.
Jonathan holds a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition, he studied Chinese at Beijing University.
Ray Rotolo is senior vice president of Out-of-Home Assets for Gimbal, Inc. and is tasked with revolutionizing how brands, retailers, advertisers and municipality services interact with displays that incorporate location and proximity-based services.
Ray has held leadership roles at several agencies that focus in the Out-of-Home industry. This includes serving as COO of Posterscope - an Out-of-Home media leader - and senior vice president and managing director for Chrysalis - the Havas Out-of-Home unit he helped create.
His background also includes serving as senior vice president, strategic alliances for Colony Capital – one of the world’s leading private equity firms – and managing director at Kinetic Worldwide - a global agency focused on relevant environment media solutions. Ray also brings experience from NBC TV Network where he was responsible for renegotiating retransmission agreements and helping to launch MSNBC.
Ray also serves on numerous industry boards and committees, including TAB and DPAA. He holds a master’s of science in finance from St. John’s University in New York.
Paul is Senior Vice President & General Manager of Marketplaces for Gimbal. Paul joins Gimbal from Phigital where he was co-founder and CEO. Prior to Phigital, Paul was Chief Product Officer, SVP of Corporate Development and GM APAC of Velti, one of the world’s largest mobile advertising and marketing technology companies.
As a global executive and serial entrepreneur with a successful track record in publicly-listed companies, Paul brings deep experience in mobile, advertising, internet infrastructure, software and telecommunications.
Paul holds an A.B. in Economics from Yale University and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Business Development & Partner Relations
Brian Dunphy oversees business development and strategic partnerships for Gimbal and leads a team responsible for expanding the Gimbal ecosystem, establishing new partnerships and business relations.
Brian spent 14 years at Qualcomm, holding a number of business development leadership positions across the company's diverse mobile technologies portfolio, including being one of the founding members involved with Gimbal since its inception in Qualcomm Labs. Brian led business development teams for a variety of mobile application based businesses including building the BREW ecosystem. Brian held leadership positions in Qualcomm's Global Market Development and Global Business Development groups, as well as Qualcomm Wireless Systems where he led strategic finance for Globalstar satellite communications business. Prior to Qualcomm, Brian spent more than five years at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from San Diego State University.
